Symmetric polyneuropathies
Relatively fixed deficits
  • Distal symmetric sensorimotor polyneuropathy
  • Acute, severe DSPN in early-onset diabetes
  • Autonomic neuropathy
  • Pseudosyringomyelic neuropathy
  • Pseudotabetic neuropathy
  • Small fibre neuropathy
Episodic or transient symptoms
  • Hyperglycemic neuropathy
  • Acute painful sensory neuropathy or diabetic neuropathic cachexia
  • Treatment-induced neuropathy
Asymmetric neuropathies
Asymmetric/focal and multifocal neuropathies
  • Cranial neuropathies
  • Truncal neuropathy (thoracic radiculopathy)
  • Proximal diabetic neuropathy (diabetic amyotrophy, diabetic radiculoplexopathy, Bruns-Garland syndrome)
  • Focal limb mononeuropathies
